The short version
You can use the safety guidance, the symptom checker and the garage listings without giving us anything at all. We only hold details when you deliberately send them, by asking for a callback or submitting a story.
The diagnosis tool
When you describe a symptom, that description is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the triage, and it is processed to produce your answer. We do not attach your name, phone number or postcode to it, and we do not store the description ourselves. Please do not type personal details into that box, because there is no reason to and it is not the right place for them.
Callback requests
If you ask for a callback we collect your phone number and postcode, and optionally your name, your van and whatever detail you add. We use it for one thing: to get you help for the breakdown you told us about. It reaches our own inbox and, for some categories, a logging sheet we use to keep track of requests.
Where the right answer is a local business, we pass on what that business needs in order to come out to you. We do not sell your details, we do not build a marketing list out of them, and we will not contact you about anything other than the request you made.
Story submissions
Stories go into a moderation queue and a person reads them before anything is published. We publish only the name you asked to be known by and the rough location you gave. We never publish your contact details. If you give us an email or mobile, it is only so we can check something with you before publishing.
Your location
If you tap "Use my location", your browser asks your permission and then gives us your coordinates. We use them for two things: working out which area's help to show you, and building the sentence you can read out to a recovery operator. Your browser controls that permission and you can refuse or revoke it at any time, in which case the postcode box still works.
We do not store your location. It stays in the page while you are using it and goes when you close the tab. The one exception is if you choose to send a callback request, in which case your coordinates are included so whoever comes out can find you, which is rather the point.
To turn coordinates or a postcode into a place name, we send them to postcodes.io, a free public UK postcode service. That is the only third party involved and it receives a location and nothing else, no name, no phone number, no identifier.
Things saved on your own phone
On the set-up page you can save the people you want to notify, the wording of that message, and your breakdown cover details. All of that is stored by your browser on your own device and none of it is ever sent to us. There is no account and we hold no copy, so there is nothing on our side to leak, hand over or delete.
When you tap a "Tell..." button, your phone opens its own messaging app with the text already written. The message goes from your number straight to theirs. It does not pass through us and we never see the recipient or the content.
Clearing your browser data, or using the Clear button on the set-up page, removes all of it immediately.
Analytics and cookies
We do not set advertising cookies and we do not run third-party tracking or advertising scripts. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs for security and reliability.
How long we keep things
Callback requests are kept while they are useful for the job, and then for a reasonable period for our own records and accounts. Published stories stay up until you ask us to take yours down.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email [email protected] and we will sort it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
