VanDown 999

Get listed on VanDown

People arrive here because their van has just stopped and they need someone now. That is about as high intent as work gets. We would rather send it to you than to a national.

We want the small outfits. One van, one person, a local firm with three trucks. If you are a national chain or a franchised dealer group, this is not for you, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight.

What we are short of

We hold a verified list of van-capable independent garages across 119 postcode areas. What we do not have, and what drivers ask us for constantly, is these:

  • Recovery and towing — It is going nowhere. Get it off the road.
  • Mobile mechanic — Someone come to me and fix it here.
  • Emergency tyre — It is just a tyre. Who comes out with the right one?
  • Same-day van hire — Can I still do today?
  • Onward transport — The customer still needs their delivery.
  • Somewhere to put the load — It cannot travel today. Where does it go tonight?
  • Somewhere to sleep — I am 200 miles from home and it is dark.

What we will ask you for

Nothing painful, but we do check, because the whole site is built on the listings being real. Expect to be asked for:

  • Trading name, the number that actually gets answered, and your base postcode.
  • The radius you genuinely cover, not the one you would like to cover.
  • Whether you work on vans up to 3.5 tonnes, and whether you will attend a roadside.
  • Your hours, honestly, including whether you take out-of-hours calls.
  • Insurance position for roadside work, and any relevant trade body or accreditation.
  • For recovery: what you run, and whether it takes a 3.5t van on a flatbed.

What it costs

Nothing at the moment. We are building each category out area by area and a listing is free while we do that. If paid placement arrives later it will be labelled as paid on the page, and it will never be able to quietly outrank a verified listing. Being straight with drivers is the only thing this site has going for it.

What we expect back

  • Answer the phone, or ring back the same day.
  • Give a price before the work, and stick to it.
  • Say no if you cannot do the job, rather than taking the call-out fee anyway.
  • Tell us when your details change, and tell us when you are too busy to take more.

Listings come down on complaints we can substantiate. No appeals process, no hard feelings, and you are welcome to reapply.
